Petspace | Creating Kitty Carpet Art

Most cats enjoy scratching, there’s no question about it, and indoor cats are no different. Just because a tree is not available, it does not decrease their desire to “leave a mark on the world” by scratching. From a cat’s point of view, chairs, sofas, and even the woodwork can serve as a good substitute. But cat owners often take a different view. They see scratching as a destructive behavior, and seek to redirect or stop it. In many cases, a scratching post can be a good compromise.

But why not try something a little different and a little more creative? By simply posting some left over carpet samples onto the wall, your feline friend can scratch until their heart’s content and can leave you with a fantastic piece of modern art.

It’s called fiber art, and pet owners across the country are using their cats and carpet remnants to create magnificent keepsakes for their homes, offices, and yes, even museums. Cats will scratch the carpet until nothing is left but long fluffy loops of fiber of all sizes and lengths. Hung on a hanger, these bits of cat activity can turn into lovely additions, no matter who you are or what you plan on doing with them.

And what’s the harm? Your cat’s happy and you could just turn a bit of trash into a bit of class.
